Rodney James

Music

Rodney James, a native San Franciscan, began performing in local clubs with several vocal groups in the mid-60s. In the 70s, he joined Talk of da Town, singing a cappella and has performed in the US and Europe.

 

In 2002, Rod became a member of the iconic group Natural Four, performing with them at the Monterey Blues Festival, the Jimmy Hendrix Experience in Seattle, the City of Oakland's 150th Birthday Celebration and Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco.

 

Rodney was a founding member of the popular Bay Area group Best Intentions, performing songs made famous by the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Spinners as well as being founder of the group Best Kept Secret performing the Stylistics and who went on to win Best R&B Group at the Bay Area Music Awards 2014.  

 

Playwright, Actor, and Producer

An acknowledged playwright, actor, and producer appearing in various Bay Area productions, Rodney realized a lifelong dream in 2005 by writing Diva On Tour, a musical theater piece about a family dealing with the success of their daughter's career. His second play, No! Not My Son, is about a family dealing with their son's drug addiction, premiered in November 2008. His third, A Dream Interrupted, A Life Reborn, celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness.

 

California Jazz Conservatory​

In 2016, Rod expanded his vocal chops to include his passion for Jazz and recently graduated from the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley where he's been honing his vocal skill.
